Same old same old.

Seems like the same old story, ... again!

I was at a CAPP WOSC meeting listening to an interesting presentation from Cecil Gordon of Cenovus. Cecil was explaining to the committee the need for an industry standard electrical work document that would protect electrical and non-electrical personnel while at the same time reduce training costs. (Companies would only have to add their individual requirements not create an entire new document)

One of the challenges is producing a document that can be used by front line personnel. Cecil explained the difficulty of implementing the policy in the field. It's one thing to produce a document its another entirely to change behaviors to match management expectations.

I hear this time and time again from clients in a wide range of industries. The companies may change, but everyone struggles with the same problem. How to drive leadership, expectations and accountability down to the bottom line.

At the core of these issues are leadership skills overlaying business process structures. If you focus on leadership and put processes in place to make it sustainable all the good results, accountability / expectations / and ultimately safety and performance records are positively affected.

One other admirable thing Cecil mentioned was that Cenovus puts all of their safety documentation in the public domain.

Now thats leadership!
