What a novel concept.

The Toronto Blue Jays are off to an amazing start to their 2010 season at 5 wins 1 loss through the first 6 games.

Does it have anything to do with the Jay's deicision to get to know their players better?

What a novel concept!

Toward the end of last season the team went into a dive and there were rumors about discension in the locker room.

To get around that, new Blue Jays GM, Alex Anthopoulos, has been reaching out to each of Toronto's players and coaches by phone.

The players couldn't believe it, expressing statements like "Wow, I've never done this before. I wish I could've done this years ago. That felt really good."

Blue Jay manager Cito Gaston, also had numerous 1-on-1 discussions with his players during this years pre-season. Not just to go over the basic performance metric expectations, but to get to know his players better. Gaston wants to know whats going on in their lives, what they are passionate about and keys to unlocking their baseball creativity.

Lets watch the season to see how it pans out and see if the Jay's new player focus results in more wins.

If so we might consider using these ideas in the workplace.
